Introduction
This project involves adaptive reuse and conversion of a historic structure (the former chapel) in the Cathedral Campus into a live/work space for visiting artist who will be attached to the Faculty of Art Architecture and Design (University of Lincoln) for a minimum period of six months. The programme aims to create a flexible studio environment which consists of a flexible working studio which interacts with associated media, an exhibition/teaching space catered for small seminars and a living space which allows the occupant to sleep, wash, cook, eat, study, read, talk and think. The potential relationship between the new work and its context – be it physical, historical, social or cultural is explored and redefined in this project.
The main idea is to reinterpret and regenerate a meaningful and inspiring space for people to live, work and play.
